Camp Wilderness 2022

Hello Families, Campers, & Volunteers!

It is MHA’s pleasure to announce that Camp Wilderness registration is now OPEN! We are so excited for camp this year and are hopeful to have it live, in person. Lake Doniphan Conference & Retreat Center in Excelsior Springs, MO will once again be our host location. We are grateful for our continued partnership with their staff and facilities.

  • Campers: Camp Wilderness will begin on Monday, August 1, 2022.
  • Volunteer Staff: Camp Wilderness will begin Sunday, July 31, 2022.
  • All: Camp Wilderness will end for everyone on Friday August 5, 2022.

It has been a long two years and we realize camp has possibly drifted from being a routine activity for you as a camper or volunteer. We firmly believe in the value of camp and what it provides to youth with bleeding disorders. Please take a moment to fill out the application and register your camper for their best week ever!

And of course, Camp Wilderness would not be possible without the many individuals who donate their time to serve as staff volunteers. We invite you to complete the application to volunteer for your best week ever as well!

Registration can be accessed through CampDoc and if you have used this system before, it should have saved all of your previous answers to make registration simple. The link below will register everyone, both campers and volunteer staff.

The registration deadline for campers and volunteers is Monday, June 27, 2022.

Covid-19 Details

In an effort to communicate clearly, I want to share a couple things regarding Camp Wilderness this year. We are not completely out of the woods regarding COVID-19 even though restrictions have relaxed in the surrounding Kansas City area. We have been communicating and deliberating with the Kansas City Regional Hemophilia Treatment Center and we have decided to use the same risk mitigation plan previously established for Camp Wilderness.

This includes but isn’t limited to:

  • Separating cabins into pods
  • Utilizing masks and social distancing
  • Prescreening with symptom checks and rapid tests

In addition to the previously established plan, we have decided all staff and campers who attend Camp Wilderness must be fully vaccinated regarding COVID-19. A person is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after receiving all recommended doses in the primary series of their COVID-19 vaccination. To clarify, Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna require two doses in their primary series while Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen requires one dose. We encourage individuals to be up to date with their COVID-19 vaccination by being fully vaccinated and receiving one booster when eligible but it will not be necessary to attend Camp Wilderness.

We simply don’t know what will happen four months from now and in an effort to have camp, we have chosen to do everything possible to have the best chance for camp to happen in person. At this point in time, we believe following the already established processes and procedures to mitigate COVID-19 and ensuring everyone is fully vaccinated is the best decision.

All of the specific details regarding the COVID-19 policies are in the “COVID-19 Information Section” of the camp application for both staff and campers.

We so desperately want to have camp, however, more importantly we want to keep our campers and staff healthy. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to seeing you this year at Camp Wilderness to have our BEST WEEK EVER!
